Primary Dashboards

Our hosted dashboarding service provides meaningful visualizations for your data and is completely customizable.

Full-featured, interactive dashboards come standard with all Hosted Graphite plans! In addition to the steps below, we also have a comprehensive video tutorial on dashboard creation that can be seen here.

Create

To create a new dashboard, hover over the + icon on the left-side menu and select dashboard. You can add new rows and panels to the dashboard as shown below.

Customize

From here you will add a metric to the graph by clicking on the title of the panel, selecting edit to open the graph editor, and clicking on the pencil icon in the query section. Then you can add your metrics to the graph, apply Graphite functions to the metrics, and modify the graph Visualization, Display, Axes, Legend, Thresholds, and Time Regions.

For more advanced graphing features, navigate to the settings gear in the top-right corner to create dashboard variables, add annotations, or import/export JSON models. See our Dashboards Video Tutorial for more details on advanced dashboard features.

We also have resources for connecting dashboards to other data sources. Check out our article on Connecting Graphite to Dashboards to find out how to get external metrics into the platform by configuring data sources to your dashboards.

Apply Functions

To apply a Graphite function to a group of metrics, open the graph editor, click the + icon and select the function to apply. Graphite functions are one of the most important features that Graphite offers, and can be used to manipulate queries to represent your data in a way that is most meaningful to you.

Timeframe

To zoom in on each graph you can highlight the section of a graph you wish to zoom in on or use the time range class=”example-vids” preload=”auto” controls on the top right. Each timeframe maps to an aggregation resolution (30s, 300s, 3600s) and your data is stored for a full 2 years! You can also set an auto-refresh rate to have your graphs update automatically which is especially useful if you have a dedicated display for monitoring your graphs.

Organize

To organize your panels in rows, simply click on the add panel icon (an image of a bar graph with an + on it, on the top right) and click on Convert to row. You can move panels by simply dragging and dropping them around the dashboard. You can also click and drag the corners making it easy to adjust both height and width. See the different panels you can choose from and learn to build useful dashboards here.

Save

To name save name your new dashboard, click on the floppy icon. To change the name of an existing dashboard, click the options cog on the top right and input the new name in Name then click save.

Manage

Clicking on the Dashboard dropdown lets you choose from your previously saved dashboards. You can use the search function to filter the results, you can also add tags to your dashboards, and create folders to help organize them. For more details on how to build custom dashboards, see our video tutorial here.

We provide a 14-day free trial for using Hosted Dashboards, where you can experiment with beautiful dashboards with no installation or setup.
